Immigration

Our current immigration system is broken.  That is why I support comprehensive immigration reform. We can balance enacting tough laws with the need for businesses to hire legal seasonal help. My position on this important issue is straightforward:

  • Secure America’s borders – this includes enhancing barriers on our borders and ports and utilizing technology where appropriate;
  • Enforce existing laws in the workplace – this requires cracking down on the organized crime element and human trafficking and penalizing employers who break the law by hiring undocumented workers;
  • Streamline and modernize the visa process – farms and small businesses that need temporary workers should be able to hire seasonal help legally and efficiently;
  • Establish a path to citizenship – people who have not committed any crimes, are paying taxes, are learning English and want to become citizens can start at the back of the line but should be allowed a path to legal residency and citizenship.
